Join us for the final day of The Broad’s special exhibition, Mickalene Thomas: All About Love, where kids and their families can design a portrait of themselves or their loved one inspired by Mickalene Thomas! Snap a picture striking your most powerful pose, then use it as the start of your portrait. Take it a step further and swap photos with a friend or family member to create works of art (and love) inspired by your favorite things about them. We’ll supply a mix of magazines, patterned paper, fabric, rhinestones, and paint markers to make a portrait that empowers. Design, build, and create a background that symbolizes the qualities of the person at the center of your artwork.

Continue the love and join a workshop led by kid-grit, an organization offering holistic approaches to creating a well-rounded individual. Learn how to develop healthy activities, focus on mindfulness, and foster family connection to promote learning and a sense of community. And don’t forget to check out Mickalene Thomas: All About Love, located on the first floor of the museum!

Thomas uses many different materials in her work, such as acrylic, rhinestones, and enamel, experimenting with art techniques such as mixed-media painting, collage, and photography in the process. In this, Thomas explores themes of kinship, care, femininity, and love. She highlights Black women in confident poses and expressions in front of well-decorated backgrounds, asking the viewer to practice love as they view her artworks.

This program is intended for children age 3+ and their families.

Tickets: Information and availability to be announced soon.
