Family Weekend Workshops: Picture Perfect
Overview
Transform yourself like Broad collection artist Cindy Sherman! Get inspired by Sherman's creative experiments with different identities and craft your character from scratch. Design a persona based on popular traits from art, movies, and media. Bring it to life using fabric, felt, and paint markers to build props and costumes before heading to the photo booth to capture your character. Take it even further by designing a background to put the finishing touch on your photo.
Cindy Sherman is a New York-based artist who has explored how we think of identity for decades. Sherman does this by photographing herself in different characters she’s created using stereotypes seen in art, ads, movies, and more. By doing this, she challenges and breaks down these stereotypes through her photos, questioning the reality of the faces we see in media.
Family Weekend Workshops offer free activities and workshops to engage with the art on view in the museum. Workshops give families the opportunity to make their own artworks to take home, inspired by the Broad collection. Family Weekend Workshops are free with advance ticket reservations. Walk-ups without reserved tickets may be accommodated, pending capacity.
