Family Weekend Workshops: Ka Pow! Roy Lichtenstein
Overview
Starting with a portrait of yourself from our Snap Yourself photobooth, create your own artwork inspired by Roy Lichtenstein and Pop Art using his signature style of bold outlines, bright colors, and Ben-Day dots!
Roy Lichtenstein is known as one of the leaders of the Pop Art movement, creating art inspired by what was popular in American culture. Lichtenstein filled his paintings with bright colors using stripes and Ben-Day dots. Ben-Day dots are printed through machines to make up the colors of pictures newspapers and comic books, but Lichtenstein painted them by hand using a stencil technique.
Family Weekend Workshops take place outdoors on the East West Bank Plaza at The Broad. In addition to creating art that can be taken home, families are encouraged to visit our galleries to view the expansive presentation of Lichtenstein’s work which inspired this workshop, and participate in scavenger hunts throughout the building.
