Family Weekend Workshops | May 2018
Overview
WORKSHOPS
Carlos Cruz-Diez
Visit Carlos Cruz-Diez's brightly colored ephemeral intervention, Couleur Additive, at the corner of Grand Avenue and 2nd Street, then explore color interaction by making original designs with markers, clear film, and a paper cutout. Using Cruz-Diez's additive color principles, families will make their own sample of a Color Additive.
Transform Yourself!
Remake yourself using some of the techniques applied by artists Takashi Murakami and Keith Haring, whose interest in toys, anime, video games, iconic linear shapes and pulsing movement are on view in the Broad collection. You'll take away a one-of-a-kind photograph!
Recycle and Accessorize
Inspired by El Anatsui's large quilt-like works in the Broad collection, you will create your own wearable statement piece made from the discarded and recycled materials which make up the "fabric" of our lives, and follow Anatsui's vision connecting consumption, waste and the environment.
DEMONSTRATION
Urban Farm-to-Table Cooking
Join Otium's Chef Terry for an interactive sushi demonstration on how to make your own California hand rolls at home! Cooking demonstrations take place every hour on the hour. Space is limited.
